FAJAR.CO.ID, MALUT — Ternate Basarnas Search and Relief Office, North Maluku (Malut) stated that the joint SAR team continued the SAR operation on the third day by searching for the two crew members of the LCT Modern Putra Samudera ship which were declared missing.
“Entering the third day, the Joint SAR Team continues to search for the two victims of the Modern Putra Samudera LCT ship which sank in South Halmahera,” Ternate Basarnas Head Fathur Rahman said when contacted on Tuesday.
He stated that the two victims in the search were Haliwela (41 years) from Ambon City, Mateos Mustamu (50 years) from Ambon City who drowned while sailing with the LCT Modern Putra Samudra carrying heavy equipment from Weda Port to Sorong, West Papua Province.
He said, the SAR operation began at 07.30 WIT, the Joint SAR Team carried out a briefing and the search was divided into 3 SRUs with a search area using the SRU Rescue Boat (RB 309) to search the coordinates and SRU 2 Rubber boats carry out a search at coordinates 0° 56’18.55″S / 128°18’44.21″E with a search area of 10.6 NM2 from the LKP.
Elements involved. Basarnas, Labuha Kodim, Koramil 1509-03/Saketa, Saketa Police, West Gane Police, Indonesian Navy Bacan Post, Polairud Bacan Post, BPBD Halsel, Babinsa Kukupang, Ship Agents, Pemdes Kukupang and the community.
He stated that the identity of the victim who died was Fredrik Benjamin Syah (59 years) from Ambon City.
He said that apart from finding one crew member dead, the joint SAR team found two crew members safe and all the victims of the sinking ship were evacuated by rubber boat to the Basarnas ship.
