How was the game

The Ecuadorians dominated the 1st half from start to finish. Jhojan Julio and Ibarra scored against an almost null São Paulo team, which was unable to shoot on goal until they went to the locker rooms. Rafael avoided the worst by making at least three good saves.

In the final half, São Paulo improved amid a lower pace from LDU and scored with Lucasbut failed to avoid a 2-1 defeat.

goals and highlights

Former Santos scores a great goal. The LDU was not aware of the Brazilians and opened the scoring even in the first bids of the duel. Jhojan Julio, a former Santos midfielder, received the ball from Ibarra, passed three São Paulo players and, when he saw Rafael leaving the goal, dug in and blew up the stadium in Quito by scoring 1-0.

Ecuadorian kneading. The home team did not reduce the pace and, before the ten minutes, had two clear chances to extend. First, Maurício Martínez forced the rival goalkeeper to work on a cross kick and, in the next move, Guerrero stayed almost after Ibarra’s cross from the right wing.

Ibarra magnifies suffering in São Paulo. Suffocating São Paulo, LDU reached the 2nd goal with great tranquility still in the 24th minute. Jhojan Julio won the melee with Rafinha and, with freedom, inserted a beautiful pass to Ibarra, which infiltrated Beraldo’s back, dislocated Rafael and guaranteed the 2-0.

Domínguez had become a spectator. The home team’s goalkeeper didn’t even make a save until the break. Experienced, Domínguez had to work a few times on cross balls to the area and, as a rule, watched the duel almost like a spectator at Casa Blanca.

Dorival tries to react. The São Paulo coach, who had lost Beraldo to injury in the 1st half, returned to the final stage with Luan in place of Gabriel Neves to block LDU’s quick attacks.

Lucas kicks. Amidst the Ecuadorians slowing down, the visitors’ first shot came six minutes into the 2nd half, when Lucas received it from Nestor and, even outside the area, took a risk. The ball, however, went wide of the goal defended by Domínguez.

Changes and more finishes. Faced with less pressure, Dorival pulled out the exhausted Rato and Nestor and activated, in addition to Michel Araújo, striker Luciano. It was precisely the number 10 who lit up the team and scared the LDU goalkeeper in a new long-distance strike — Calleri, with a header, also came close to reducing the advantage.

Luciano gives a sweet ball, and Lucas does not forgive. São Paulo turned their improvement into a goal in the 35th minute, when Luciano broke through the middle and found Lucas diagonally. The number 7 shirt, like a typical center forward, overcame Domínguez at the entrance to the area and reduced it: 2 to 1.

Rafael avoids the worst. Already in the additions, the Brazilian goalkeeper still avoided the third goal of the LDU by palming a powerful shot by Quiñónez, crowning a great individual display before the final whistle.
