São Paulo Coach Thiago Carpini Talks Tactics, Player Preparations, and Team’s Future Plans in Boleiragem Interview

Supercup champion less than a month old São PauloThiago Carpini participated in Boleiragem, a sportv program, on Monday night.

One day after beating Palmeiras on penalties, at Mineirão, the Tricolor coach spoke about the team’s tactics in normal time, about the performance in penalties and praised the São Paulo squad, in addition to detailing the club’s planning for the sequence of the season.

– We are still looking for some very specific situations. Caio’s departure, his non-stay, we are left with Welington and we have Patryck, a promising young man, but perhaps he needs to strengthen a little more. At the moment he doesn’t feel safe, but as the season progresses it could be an option. I already shared it with him, he also agreed and was open to helping in any way possible. Newly arrived at Tricolor, the coach, with recent spells at Água Santa and Juventude, is still trying to put all his characteristics into his current team.

Carpini also spoke about the legacy left by Dorival Júnior in São Paulo. The current Tricolor coach was hired by the club precisely because the former coach went to the Brazilian team.

– Dorival left well-defined ideas, a well-defined standard, a very well organized standard, a wonderful legacy. You have to know how to arrive, too. When things are good, we enhance the good things. And slowly we are proposing some things to give us a little flavor. What I found made the job a lot easier. The athletes, environments, the people who do the São Paulo.

Juventude gave me the opportunity too. I knew a little of the cast. It was a learning experience, a challenge for not knowing the market. Don’t assemble the cast. I adapted to the characteristics I had there. In many moments I didn’t put exactly what I wanted – added the coach.

In less than a month, Carpini commanded the São Paulo in breaking the long taboo of ten years without beating Corinthians at the Neo Química Arena and in an unprecedented title.
