São Paulo and Santos Agree to Stadium Swap for Brazilian Championship Matches

São Paulo e Santos entered into an agreement to exchange the rent of their stadiums when necessary. Tricolor will play its first game at Vila Belmiro, Santos’ home, on November 8th, against Bragantino, for the 33rd round of the Brazilian Championship.

On this date, Morumbi will be closed to set up the structure for two international shows. On the 10th, the North American band Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform at the venue. On November 12th and 13th, the Mexican group RBD will perform at the São Paulo stadium.

The CBF is expected to make changes to the competition table in the coming days.

At the beginning of the year, São Paulo entered into a similar agreement with Palmeiras to host their games at Allianz Parque. In the only game that was played at the rival’s stadium, Tricolor was eliminated in the Campeonato Paulista.

In recent months, the Palmeiras club was also criticized by director Carlos Belmonte and coach Dorival Júnior because of the synthetic lawn. São Paulo suffered from injuries during the season there.

Santos, in turn, will be able to choose a date to host a game at Morumbi in the championship they want. With the renovations of Vila Belmiro scheduled to take place at the beginning of next year, Peixe will be able to use the São Paulo stadium.
