Santos Pursues Reinforcements: Targeting Chilean Striker Alexis Sánchez

O Santos has sought more reinforcements for the remainder of the season. After hitting midfielder Tomás Rincón, Peixe is now targeting Chilean striker Alexis Sánchez. The club knows it is a difficult negotiation, but is looking for information to formalize a proposal.

The conversations have been led by technical coordinator Alexandre Gallo. The leader wants to understand the player’s demands and what would be a reasonable proposal to hire the Chilean.

Despite being complex, the Santos feels that there is reciprocity on the part of the businessman who takes care of the striker’s career, who was willing to listen to a proposal from Peixe.

Alexis Sánchez is 34 years old and one of the main players in the history of Chilean football. With the national team, he won two editions of the Copa America, in 2015 and 2016. Formed by Cobreloa, he had spells at Colo-Colo, both from Chile, River Plate, from Argentina, and Udinese, from Italy, before arriving at Barcelona, from Spain in 2011.

He played for three seasons at the Spanish club and won a Spanish Championship, a King’s Cup, two Spanish Super Cups, in addition to the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

He left the Catalan club in July 2014, when he moved to Arsenal, in England. For the Gunners he lifted three FA Super Cups and two FA Cups. In English football, he still had a lackluster spell at Manchester United between 2018 and 2019.

In 2019, the player was loaned to Inter Milan, Italy and, after a year on loan to the club, signed a definitive contract the following season. With Nerazzurri, Sánchez won an Italian Championship, an Italian Cup and an Italian Super Cup.

Last year, he left Inter for Olympique Marseille, from France. Last season, he played 44 games and scored 18 goals, in addition to providing three assists. After the end of the contract, he was free on the market.
