With the contract extension, Gimenez and Feyenoord make it clear that a departure will not happen anytime soon. The contract that the Mexican signed in 2022 ran until the summer of 2026. An extra year has now been added.
Earlier this summer, Gimenez already stated that he wanted to stay with Feyenoord, but rumors of a departure still surfaced. Benfica would be interested in the striker, but the Portuguese are fishing behind the net. Last season, Gimenez was the absolute favorite of the Feyenoord fans. With 23 goals in 45 games, he was vital for the great championship year of the team from Rotterdam.

News of Gimenez’s contract extension comes a few hours after Ueda’s official arrival. The Japanese striker must become the competitor of the Mexican striker at Feyenoord next season. Ueda signed a contract until 2028. The Japanese is used to playing in a two-striker system, so trainer Arne Slot could experiment with that.
