With a budget of more than 600,000 euros, the performance could begin in the first quarter of 2025
SANTANDER, 17 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The local Government Board of the Santander City Council will approve this Monday the 18th the file to contract the works of the ‘Urban Forest-Conditioning and paving of Doctor Diego Madrazo Avenue’ project, with a bidding budget of 644,010 euros and an execution period of 6 months.
The forecast is that works can begin during the first quarter of 2025 and next fall the new green corridor can be enjoyed.
This was announced this Sunday in a press release by the Councilor for the Environment, Margarita Rojo, who highlighted that the City Council will improve this avenue, which currently has a wide paved median, into a green corridor as an urban forest.
“We are going to transform public space through an exemplary action to insert green infrastructure into the city,” said Rojo, and recalled that this is an urban renaturalization action that is part of the Santander Capital Natural project to promote renewal. urban and environmental improvement of the entire environment.
The intervention will transform the median by allocating 4,500 square meters to green areas and 1,500 square meters to permeable pavement, capable of absorbing rainwater.
The green areas will be crossed by winding paths that will invite you to discover spaces of abundant and dense vegetation, like an urban forest, in which citizens will coexist with certain species of fauna.
The replacement of the current tiles with a much smaller and permeable paved surface and the planting of complex vegetation in the rest with several species of trees and shrub and herbaceous strata are proposed.
The undulating route will alternate between areas under the trees and sunny sections where many interesting species can grow, both from an aesthetic and ecological point of view.
This design aims to ensure that the vegetation interrupts the view from anywhere on the walk so that “it does not look like a rectilinear walk merely flanked by plants,” Rojo detailed.
Thus, he highlighted that the sensation will be more similar to that experienced in a forest where the view is always limited. This path will open into a series of small squares that will also be where you reach from the zebra crossings. In addition, plant barriers will be created to protect users from traffic inconveniences.
The creation of a zebra crossing is also planned at the intersection with Arsenio Odriozola Street that allows pedestrian continuity to the two sections of the promenade without the need for the pedestrian to cross to the sidewalk and return to the promenade.
On the other hand, the project proposes the collection of rainwater from the edge of the adjacent roads to incorporate it into the promenade and to be used by the planted trees and bushes, forming wet meadows or even temporary ponds, as a rain garden. The avenue will also have living spaces, with benches where you can enjoy the forest in the shade.
“This intervention, in addition to expanding the surface of permeable soil by 6,500 square meters, will transform Doctor Madrazo Avenue into a soft, friendly, permeable and leafy promenade, also connected to Mataleñas, one of the best parks in Santander,” he said. said the councillor.
