EThis week, the National Government launched the Digital Certificate of Vaccination for COVID-19. In Colombia, more than 400 thousand digitized immunization certificates have already been generated from the Mi Vacuna platform.
Felipe González, COVID-19 manager in Santander, said that the possibility that this certificate is required in Santander to enter mass events, discos, bars and restaurants, among others, is not ruled out.
“We have already been discussing it with local leaders, other health authorities and even unions. Of course, for this we need to continue with the continuity of arrival of vaccines to our department from the National Government, “he said.
According to González, the impacts that these measures may have in other countries are also being studied, where the digital vaccine certificate is being used to access these places and spaces.
“We will evaluate the considerations of the Ministry of Health. At this time, free calls have been given, advising strategies with a tendency more towards motivation, pedagogy and education with the communities; favoring voluntary vaccination since this is an act of self-responsibility with one’s life and that of others, he said.

What is it?
The Digital Vaccination Certificate is a private document that can be consulted or presented from any computer or mobile device. It accredits each citizen who lives in the country, if they have already started or completed the immunization against SARS-CoV-2.
According to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, the purpose of this is to present it in entities and in access to certain spaces and events that decide to require it.
The digital document will have accredited the information of each vaccinated person; that is, names and surnames, type and identification number, date of birth, country, contact number, email, dose received, lot of vaccine applied, type of vaccine, vaccination center, date of application, country of vaccination, stamp digital and document issuance date.
It will also generate a QR code, with the encrypted information of the citizen and the authentication process of the certificate.
To download it, all you have to do is access https://mivacuna.sispro.gov.co/, the National Citizen Folder Service and the CoronApp mobile application, as many times as necessary.
It should be noted that, for now, it is only valid in the country. However, the National Government built it in full observance of the technical recommendations issued by the WHO, for its next international recognition.
35,924,414 doses of anti-COVID vaccines have been applied in the country and 1,775,540 in Santander. However, many people who, despite having completed their scheme for many months, say that the Certificate has not yet been generated for them.
Faced with this issue, precisely, MinSalud clarified that the Health Provider Institutions, IPS, must update themselves in the delivery of data on the vaccination process they carry out so that all people can have that information, because the information where all the data is captured is in the PAIWEB 2.0.
This application has a lag of approximately 36% related to records that have not been included. To support the IPS, the Ministry reported that they carry out different actions such as the option of being able to carry out a massive upload of information in case they already have the records entered or within their own information systems.
The certificate is free, downloadable, printable, with no expiration date at the moment, and contains a QR code, which guarantees its veracity and reliability. In addition, it can be generated in English or Spanish.
But is it really safe?
As a result of the doubts that have arisen about its safety, Vanguardia spoke with Mariana Burgues, spokesperson for Koibanx, the company that developed the platform for the certification of vaccines against Cororonavirus.
The spokesperson assured that after the successful experience of the Vital Pass passport, implemented last May by Davivienda and AUNA, the National Government adopted the experience and decided to develop an immutable, digital and accessible registry for all citizens through the internet.
“What we are looking for with this is that the certificate is digital, is ‘un-packable’ and that it can be presented in any place that is required. Any paper can forge it. So with this development we contribute to public safety ”, he asserted.
What type of technology was used?
Burgues affirmed that for this development blockchain technology was used, which is what gives life to cryptocurrencies; it is also known as a blockchain.
“The cryptographic technology that seals the records is practically ‘unsafe’ because it is very easy to detect when something was modified and because there is an exact copy of the records on the blockchain. That is why it is ideal for registering assets with securities. The certificate of a vaccine and more today, also has a value. So when registering the vaccination certificate, everything remains on this platform that is leveraged on the Algorand blockchain, ”he said.
How does it work?
It should be noted that all people who have started their vaccination scheme in Colombia or have completed it will have this certificate, without having to pay a peso; therefore, it is important that everyone access the official portals.
The National Government gives access to the information to Koinbanx to replicate it in the blockchain and thus generate the certificate that, later, the citizen can download it from My Vaccine.
Simply enter with your username and password, you will be able to see the option “Vaccines” and, from there, download a PDF with your vaccination certification. It is not necessary to be registered on this platform to get vaccinated.
The information of each patient is confidential, and Mi Vacuna compares it with official sources of the Ministry of Health. This document, being endorsed by the national government, is valid for any procedure and before any entity that requests this information.
Is it only valid in Colombia?
It is expected, as reported by Burgues, that the Colombian certificate will be homologated with the certificates of the European Union for those who need it if they travel to the old continent.
