The free public car park set up by the Santander City Council for the residents of Calle Alta, located next to number 95-A (former Prison Provincial corner), is operational from this Friday after the cleaning and conditioning of the land.
It has capacity for about 40 vehicles and is located on a plot ceded to the Consistory by the owners, who proposed this solution as they were unable to take charge of the cleaning and sanitation tasks on the property, the City Council has reported.
The assignment was made under the commodatum regime until the completion of the compulsory expropriation procedure that affects the site due to its integration into the future action foreseen in the PGOU for the area of the former Provincial Prison.
At the time, the City Council opened an insalubrity file on the aforementioned site for presenting several parked cars inside it, some even abandoned, and wild vegetation of considerable size, such as scrub and undergrowth, with specimens of the invasive plant species of feather duster. pampas.
In response to the requirements of the City Council, the co-owners requested the services of a cleaning company, but, as there were parked vehicles, they could not carry it out due to the risk of damaging them.
Given these circumstances, with the addition that the site is subject to an expropriation procedure that has not yet been completed, the owners of the property asked the City Council to accept the assignment until the occupancy certificates are drawn up and the expropriation payment is made for its use as a property. free parking.
As a consequence of this agreement, the City Council assumes the cleaning tasks, thus guaranteeing sanitary conditions, and, in addition, it has carried out the necessary actions to tidy up this space as free parking in an area with a shortage of parking spaces. vehicle parking.
