ROME (ITALPRESS) – “The latest data on the trend of Italian tourism provide us with many useful indications on the present and future of this industry. First of all, in September online accommodation facilities reported a saturation rate higher than that of direct competitors such as Spain and France, while most of the main Italian airports recorded flows higher than those of last year. This confirms the growing tendency to travel in less traditional periods than the traditional summer quarter – a trend on which we can work through careful planning that leads us to make the levels of tourist supply and demand structural in terms of deseasonalisation”. Thus the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanchè, commenting on the data from the department’s infographic.
“But there is more – he adds – we understand, once again, the driving force that tourism receives from major sporting events; by virtue of the Ryder Cup, hosted in Rome from 28 September to 1 October, Lazio records the highest number of bookings compared to the online offers available. Not just sport, though. Even the splendid artistic heritage that we have and which makes Italy unique in the world is reconfirmed as a strategic asset on which to focus and, therefore, to be valorised. Cities of art, in fact, represent the most popular Italian destinations. In this sense, I believe that Minister Sangiuliano’s choice to make entry to the Pantheon a fee is an example to follow and extend to the rich system of Italian monuments”.
Below are the main data from the weekly infographic: Italy closes the month of September with an average saturation rate of online accommodation facilities of 45.5%, ahead of Spain and France and behind Greece (53.1%) which confirms the higher rates also for this summer queue.
In the month of September, Lazio recorded the highest number of bookings compared to available online offers (58%). Another 5 Regions – Campania (51.7%), Tuscany (51.2%), Veneto (50.8%), Liguria (46.9%) and Lombardy (45.7%) – present values higher than the national average (45.5%).
In September the most popular Italian destinations for tourists are art cities (54.1%), followed by lakeside resorts (48.2%) and seaside resorts (45.1%). Florence (74.6%), Rome (63.7%), Naples (62.6%) and Venice (61.5%) are the most popular destinations with values well above the average for art cities. The prices of the stays follow the market trend with Venice (305 euros) and Milan (290 euros) recording the highest average rates.
In September, airline bookings increased compared to 2022, mainly thanks to the foreign component. Almost all Italian airports recorded higher flows than the previous year: above all, Rome (+22%), Naples (+20%) and Bari (+19%) stand out for the most significant improvements.
In the month of August the Colosseum confirmed itself as the most sought-after Italian tourist attraction with over 1 million searches (+27% vs ’22). The preference consolidates for the Milan Cathedral (+50% vs ’22) and for the Vesuvius National Park which marks the highest increase in online searches compared to 2022 (+114%). Other attractions include the Royal Palace of Caserta (+3% vs ’22) and Piazza San Marco (+49% vs ’22).
