Freedom Squarethe new walk of Santa Teresa and the parking lot in the square have redesigned a symbolic area of the city. Lands on which, however, the competences of both the Municipality and the Port System Authority fall. Precisely for this “coexistence”, the two parties have now defined a memorandum of understanding to define and put on paper skills and commitments. In the agreement approved by the mayor’s council Vincenzo Napoli in recent days, among other things, the construction – at the expense of Palazzo di Città – of a parking area for cars dedicated to the transport of cruise passengers near the car park in the square is planned. While the other spaces left free by the buildings will have to be allocated to public greenery.
«The Authority and the Municipality – we read in the Memorandum of Understanding – will evaluate the possibility of allocating activities functional to the uses of the Manfredi Pier and the so-called Cruise Hub, for the stop of vehicles functional to passenger transport, if compatible with the general structure”. As far as the Port Authority alone is concerned, however, the commitment “to create a dock pertaining to the Santa Teresa body of water to be allocated to strictly port uses” is put in black and white».
