For the first time ever, the celebrated and beloved of the people is set Santa is the father of all the children up on a theater stage with some of Sweden’s most well-known actors. Premiere on Cirku’s big stage in Stockholm on November 15, 2024.
Tomten is the father of all the children had its cinema premiere 25 years (1999) ago and over the years it has become a Swedish film classic. The popular cult film is now taking a long-awaited step onto the theater stage. We get to follow a chaotic Christmas Eve where Sara (Liv Möjnes) invites her ex-husbands and their new families to celebrate with her reluctant partner, Janne (Linus Wahlgren). What, according to Sara, should have been a loving and traditional celebration soon develops into a comical mess where secrets are revealed and surprises follow each other.
– I have longed to return to the stage and am very happy that I will be able to share it with this lovely ensemble! The story is a classic at Christmas time, so it feels like a package both for myself and the audience to now take it on to Cirkus, says Eva Röse.
In the main roles we see Liv Mjönes, Linus Wahlgren, Eva Röse, Fredrik Hallgren, Julia Dufvenius and Magnus Betnér. The ensemble also includes several famous names such as Maia Hansson Bergqvist, Jakob Setterberg, Anton Lundqvist, Clara Henry and Inez Dahl Torhaug.
As a tribute to the original film, the director Rikard Bergqvist, together with Monica Rolfner, the author of the film, has developed a script for the theater scene which broadly reflects the film but which also contains completely new elements.
– The audience can expect everything that the popular film has plus much, much more. A sumptuous Christmas celebration with recognitions, pillows of shame and laughter that sticks in the throat, laced with music, song and dance. We are very happy that Monica is letting us make a wild theater party of the all-time most loved Swedish Christmas film, says Richard Bergqvist, director.
