Santa Cruz will kick off the New Year with the popular “San Salitre” swim trip | Radio Club Tenerife | Present

The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, together with the councilor Alicia Cebrián presented this morning in the City Council of the capital the first edition of a novel popular swimming crossing that will take place on January 1, 2022, under the name of ” San Salitre “, organized by the Sports service with the collaboration of the company Gesport Canarias SLU and the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife,” San Salitre “, which will be held on New Year’s Day at 11.30 am. to be developed in the South Dock of Santa Cruz, in the vicinity of the marina car park in front of the Plaza de España, specifically in the Los Llanos-Muelle de Rivera 2 dock. For which two distances are planned: 1,000 and 2,000 meters .

This first edition will have a maximum participation of 300 registered, 150 in each of the distances, and in which they can participate from the age of 14, without the obligation to be federated. Registration was opened last Monday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m. until December 28 at 8:00 p.m.

It will be done online through the registration platform available at www.gesportcanarias.com by filling in all the fields of the form and making the payment of 15 euros per registration by means of payment by POS. Each participant may register in one of the two proposed distances: 2,000 or 1,000 meters.

José Manuel Bermúdez began the appearance by saying that “this is the first edition of something that we want in the future to be a symbol of New Year’s Day in our city, and without a doubt we want to demonstrate the vocation that the city has to recover from contact with the sea, which is one of the first objectives of this event ”.

Alicia Cebrián stated that “from the Sports service we considered that Santa Cruz had to have its own event on a date as important as the first day of the year, and that it be an attraction for citizens and for the people who come to spend those days to our city with an enviable temperature, so getting into the water on New Years is not a far-fetched idea ”.

“We have very good expectations with this test, since registration was opened this week and the demand is very high, so we do not rule out that we may even have to expand the quota we have set.” Cebrián also assured that “one of our great objectives is for citizens to have the opportunity to start the year doing sport, since it is a totally popular event that welcomes everyone and you don’t have to be a swimmer to participate. and enjoy. You can be federated or not, “he said.

On the other hand, the head of the port area of ​​the Port of Santa Cruz, Sebastián Calani, appreciated the initiative that the Sports area of ​​the Santa Cruz City Council is going to launch, and pointed out that “it is an excellent idea within the city-wide framework. port, which we will make compatible with port operations ”.

Likewise, Calani pointed out that all the facilities will be made so that the test is held in ideal conditions, so that day “we will close the Los Llanos dock in the strip where the test is going to be held so as not to run any type of risk. , within this framework of port-city relations ”. Isidro Casanova, on behalf of the Gesport Canarias company, thanked the City Council, and specifically the Sports area, for the launch of an initiative that he considers to be a “competitive event, although it is popular, and celebratory when celebrating the beginning of the New Year’s Eve with the sea as the protagonist, will undoubtedly be a success ”.
