The vaccination campaign against canine rabies, which will take place next weekend (September 9 and 10), aims to immunize 850,000 pets. Carmelo Salvatierra, coordinator of Urban Networks of the Headquarters of the Government of Santa Cruz, informed this Thursday that the objective of the crusade is to reach 85 percent of the coverage in the entire department to reduce the number of cases of rabies in animals.
“With regular vaccination it has been possible to control timely prophylaxis for people bitten. Thanks to the annual animal immunization campaigns, only three positive cases of the disease have been reported during this administration,” the official explained.
Approximately 10,000 people are expected to participate. from universities, municipalities and the College of Veterinarians, who will support the activity during the two days. Vaccination posts will be set up in squares, parks, educational units and health centers in the urban area. Door-to-door vaccination brigades will be available in the most remote areas.
