The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, and the Councilor for Sports, Alicia Cebrián, received the 13-year-old young sailor Carla Lorenzo Nieto in the City Council, who last week won the bronze medal in the Spanish Championship of sailing for the Optimist class that was held in the waters of Bayona, Galicia, with the participation of 150 athletes from all over Spain.
Carla Lorenzo Nieto, belongs to the discipline of the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, and concluded in a brilliant third place in the female sub 13 category. This young promise of Canarian sailing surpassed many of the sub 16 category sailors in the absolute classification of the Spanish Championships.
The athlete, who was accompanied by her coach and her father, told the mayor and councilor about her experience in these championships, and her satisfaction with the result achieved. José Manuel Bermúdez, for his part, let him know how happy he was for having raised the name of Santa Cruz so high in this national event, and commented that “it is a huge satisfaction for the City Council to see that sailing continues to give success to the town”.
While Alicia Cebrián said that “it is one more proof of the large number of athletes in our city with a lot of talent, but we have to give them the best training conditions so that they can continue competing at the highest level.”
Finally, the Councilor for Sports commented that “Carla is a very young sailor and with the results obtained in this Spanish Championship she shows that she has a very encouraging future in this sport. I encourage her to continue enjoying the sea and sailing, such a beautiful sport that teaches you so many things ”.
