In an intense duel, but with few dangerous chances at the goal, Deportes Santa Cruz earned a point against the super leader of Primera B, Deportes La Serena.
At the Joaquín Muñoz García stadium, the home team had to fight back to turn the score around, especially when they also had the misfortune of having their goalkeeper, Gonzalo Flores, injured early on but only being replaced at the end of the first half.
The scoring was opened by the visiting team, when in the 29th minute the former General Velásquez Sebastián Molina set up the play on the left, saw defender Ethan Espinoza uncovered on the right and he did not hesitate to take a cross shot that left Flores with no option.
The 0-1 scoreline seemed to be putting the Granates on track for another win in the tournament, but in the second half, a clever move by Iván Ledezma in the 47th minute allowed the home team to secure the final score of 1-1.
After the match, coach Hernán Peña said that the result was fair. “We have to highlight what the team did after the hard blow it suffered last week. We had to turn things around like what La Serena did, we were a balanced team, but I think we could have taken the win. I think that, beyond that little pleasure, the result was fair.”
The Union team has 32 points in 24 games and will visit Deportes Antofagasta at the Calvo y Bascuñán stadium on Sunday 8th at 12.30 pm, a key match to continue dreaming of qualifying for the playoffs and going for the unprecedented promotion to the First Division.
