Monkeypox is not letting up as infections continue to rise in several Bay Area cities.
In Santa Clara County, supplies of the virus vaccine are scarce so they are only vaccinating people who can verify they were exposed, according to information on the county Public Health Department website.
In addition, the county is working with health providers and organizations in the LGBTQ community to spread the word.
“Public Health contacted us to do a community forum on July 21 at 6:00 pm,” said Gabrielle Antolovich, president of The Billy DeFrank LGBTQ Community Center.
The county reported through a statement that they have received 742 vaccines that are being distributed among health providers, while others are administered by them.
There are currently 11 cases of monkeypox in the county and 30 people who have had direct contact with someone infected have been inoculated.
Authorities indicated that they expect to receive another batch in the coming weeks in order to expand the eligibility of people.
