Santa Clara County Launches Campaign to Encourage Childhood Vaccinations

The Santa Clara County Department of Public Health launched a campaign Thursday with the goal of informing parents about the importance of vaccinating children to prevent serious diseases.

The campaign called “Vaccines are another part of healthy development” encourages vaccination and offers information on the resources available to families so that their children are vaccinated against any disease.

Authorities explained that the initiative will be carried out through community events, in Spanish, Vietnamese and other languages, which will take place from April to June.

“Whether it’s for COVID, the flu, measles or whooping cough, these vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective, helping children grow up happy, healthy and strong,” said Patricia Cerrato, director of the Vaccination Program. from the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health.

Cerrato assured that some of the factors why parents do not vaccinate their children is the lack of appointments, so families will have access to information about places that offer free or low-cost childhood vaccines.

The number of childhood immunizations not related to COVID-19 vaccines administered by all medical providers in Santa Clara County decreased between 2020 and 2021.

Recent data from the California Department of Public Health show improvements in reported immunization rates for Santa Clara County for the 2021-2022 school year for kindergarten students. However, more students remain behind on required vaccinations than before the pandemic, putting them at risk of serious illness and exclusion from school.
