Santa Ana winds will bring warm weather to the greater San Diego area this week

The Santa Ana winds will return to San Diego this week, pushing temperatures into the 70s and 80s on the coast and further inland, and there will be ideal weather for the Padres season opener at Petco Park on Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the weak Santa Ana that warmed the entire county over the weekend will fade early Monday. But new Santa Anas will emerge early Tuesday and peak Wednesday.

Forecasters estimate that winds will be as high as 40 mph, and perhaps slightly higher, along Interstate 8, east of Alpine, and in the Ramona to Julian region.

High pressures will dominate the rest of the week.

San Diego’s daytime high will hit 72 degrees on Monday, 71 on Tuesday, 80 on Wednesday, 77 to 78 on Thursday and 72 on Friday. The seasonal high is 66.

The temperature is expected to be 77 degrees when the Padres face the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:10 pm on Thursday.

Ramona’s maximum will be 79 on Monday, 77 on Tuesday, 81 on Wednesday, 84 on Thursday, and close to 80 on Thursday.

The meteorological service does not plan to issue a forest fire weather advisory because the recent rains in the interior have caused the vegetation to green much.

The rains have not uniformly benefited the county. San Diego International Airport has recorded 4.36 inches of precipitation since the rainy season began on October 1. That’s 4.68 inches below average.
