1.07 pm – Amadeus: «The doors of Sanremo are open, I haven’t changed my mind»
«I opened the doors, and I’m not going back. If there is anyone who would like to be there, I welcome them, there is no change of mind on my part compared to yesterday.” Amadeus reiterates its willingness to give space to the tractor protest in Sanremo, but specifies: «No one called me. If there is someone who contacts Rai, he will let them know who the people are or the person who wishes to be present, we will absolutely evaluate it.”
«The topic – Amadeus recalls when answering journalists’ questions – came up yesterday at a press conference. As a presenter and artistic director, since it is a serious problem, which also concerns Europe, to the question if they wanted to come would you welcome them, I answer yes and I remain of this idea. Then there is a next phase. Nobody called me on my cell phone, if someone contacts Rai and lets them know who the people are or the person who wishes to be present, we’ll see.” Amadeus does not say too much about the possible evening, “maybe Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, I don’t know, I opened the doors and that’s it.”
1.03pm – Mengoni: «With the help of a therapist I learned to manage fragility»
“We must not escape fragility, but find tools to manage it.” Thus Marco Mengoni, co-host of the Sanremo Festival, in a press conference at the Ariston in view of the opening of the event this evening. «Fragility is part of the human being – he continues – and we must not refuse but educate ourselves. With an hour’s help a week I dedicate myself to it with a therapist, and I’m very happy to play with this. Playing with all my thoughts. Obviously you do the work, not the therapist. You do work when your brain goes to rest and puts all your thoughts in order and in line. But nothing should be rejected.”
12.58pm – Mengoni: «Anna Marchesini genius and my most important muse»
«I watched some Sanremos in which I was a bit young, I had seen them live but I didn’t understand the importance of characters and human beings from the past. I watched with great joy a Sanremo where Anna Marchesini was co-host, for me the absolute genius. She did a lot. With her I laugh with tears, she has inspired me so much, even in the voices with which I will leave the stage very often tonight.” Marco Mengoni revealed this at a press conference ahead of his debut tonight on the Ariston stage in the first evening of the Sanremo Festival, as co-host of Amadeus.
12.56pm – Amadeus: «I love the festival but I think a cycle needs to be closed»
«I love the festival, you know it well, I’m happy with it, but I think we need to close a cycle, also to recharge, think about new things, even other things», reiterates Amadeus in the press room at Sanremo talking about his future «I love the games, the quizzes, the newspaper. I had the opportunity to prepare Affari Tuoi during the festival and luckily it went better than we thought. In the past I went abroad to look for new formats, I would like to have time to do other things that can give me other emotions. I’m not tired, I’m fine, but I think it should be closed, hoping that it ends with pleasant results. There is no problem, everything is very peaceful”, adds the artistic director.

12.37pm – Mengoni: «I enter on tiptoe but I bring all of myself»
«What I feel is that I have never left Sanremo, as if I had lived here all year. I’m lucky, not everyone has opportunities to go on stage as a co-host. Thanks to Ama because she left me the freedom to express myself. I tiptoe in, doing another job, but I bring my all.” Thus Marco Mengoni at a press conference in Sanremo, where he will open the Festival this evening as co-host on the Ariston stage. “In the meantime I’m sweating, emotional pressure and anxiety – underlines Mengoni – but I know how to pretend well and tonight you will have proof of it. I have studied a lot these 74 years of Sanremo. Thank you all”.
12.18 pm – Soldi (Rai president): «It’s my last Sanremo, Rai needs unity»
«This Sanremo is the third for me, and it will also be the last as president, because this extraordinary experience at the top of the company will end after three years, as was the intention from the beginning. They were three very interesting years as president, not at all boring or static: we had two CEOs, the government changed, we tragically lost an advisor: I remained in my position to complete the work I had started.” Rai president Marinella Soldi says this in the press room in Sanremo for a brief greeting. The festival “unites and there is an increasingly greater need for unity in Rai too”.
12.12 pm – The Rai president: «The finale broadcast for free on Ukrainian public TV»
11.32 am – From the BBC to Le Monde, foreign journalists return to the press room in Sanremo
A Festival that is told in many different languages and to Italians who live in other countries. For Sanremo 74 the foreign press returns to the Festival press room, after the restrictions caused by Covid in the last three years. Between the Press Room at the Ariston Roof and the «Lucio Dalla» Press Room there are 19 radio stations, 13 newspapers and 5 television stations all committed to building a story of the most important week in Italian music.
Around 50 journalists were accredited between radio, television and print and web publications. They range from European media, such as Le Monde and Die Zeit to those in South America – Chile and Argentina – up to reporters from the Transcaucasian state of Georgia. Furthermore, this year there are important presences from foreign public radio and television services: the French France3, the British BBC, the German ARD, the Serbian broadcaster RTS, the Croatian HRT, the Romanian TVR and the Swiss RSI.
11.18am – Federica Brignone in Sanremo, guest at the Ariston tonight
From the ski slopes directly to the Ariston stage: in full competitive season, Federica Brignone said yes to Amadeus’ invitation also to promote her sport in the run-up to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics and tonight she will be an exceptional guest of the first Sanremo evening, first skier at the festival.
«At the beginning my reaction was: help, I’m busy with training and competitions. Then I thought it would be an opportunity to live a unique experience”, confirms to Ansa the athlete, third in the world ranking, who is part of the Carabinieri military sports group.
11.08 am – Hosts, singers, evenings, guests: everything you need to know
(Arianna Ascione) Sanremo 2024 is ready in the starting blocks: the stage of the legendary Ariston theater will host, from Tuesday 6 February to Saturday 10 February, the 74th edition of the Italian Song Festival. There will be 30 singers competing: 27 big names and the first three classified of Sanremo Giovani 2023.
Here is everything you need to know.
10.58am – Annalisa, Angelina and Alessandra. Factor «A» in the running for victory
(by Andrea Laffranchi, sent to Sanremo) «A» factor. And it’s not Amadeus. The Festival is his creation, four successful editions and now the fifth and, the host swears, the last. The presence of the first letter of the alphabet, however, seems decisive in the musical competition. Annalisa, Angelina Mango and Alessandra Amoroso – here the initial is even double – are, with the inconvenient Geolier in third place, the favorites to win for the bettors. The first votes from the critics, someone calculated the average of the report cards, put Bertè and Negramaro in the lead, but immediately afterwards there were Angelina and Annalisa again.
