A nasty injury to Sanni Hakala forced the SDHL match between HV71 and Djurgården into a long stoppage.
HV71’s team captain crashed headfirst into one of the posts and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
After meetings with referees, the teams and SDHL’s sports director, the match is postponed to a later date.
The SDHL meeting in Jönköping was barely three minutes old when the accident occurred.
Outnumbered, Hakala got the puck and stormed towards the goal. But a few meters from the finish line, she fell and crashed headfirst into one of the posts.
Hakala was left lying on the ice and medical personnel were called in. She was later taken off the ice on a stretcher.
Conscious
After a few minutes, the players of both teams went to the dressing rooms and the match was suspended for over 40 minutes. In the end, the announcer called out that after meetings between the teams, the referees and the SDHL, it was decided that the match would be suspended and played on at a later date.
– She was conscious, talking and in pain. The fact that she is in pain can be seen as a positive, it means that she has feeling in any case, says HV71’s coach Ulf Hall to Sportbladet.
