Nursing home employee Sanna Elkadiri (39) from Eindhoven was the first Dutch person to receive her second corona prick on Wednesday morning. A follow-up injection is necessary to build up sufficient immunity. “It gives a feeling of freedom!”
39-year-old Sanna also received the first Dutch vaccine on 6 January. Now it was her turn symbolically for the follow-up injection. The carer works in nursing home Het Wereldhuis in Boxtel. In seven days she should be protected against the corona virus. “I am even happier than last time. It was another exciting moment!”

‘To cry’
Last time, a lot got over Sanna after the first shot. “I even got applause from residents when I came back. They followed everything on television. At that moment I had to cry, I did it for them!” The Eindhoven native has not had any side effects.

Lucas van der Kallen from Best was again the second turn. “I feel completely fine and have had no side effects. It feels nice to be protected.” Still, he doesn’t mind being the ‘eternal number two’. “I’m totally fine with that!”

Healthcare personnel will receive the corona vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech. That was the first vaccine on the market in the Netherlands. It has been administered to people who work in nursing homes and disability care and to the people they care for. Doctors and nurses in acute care and ambulance workers also received the vaccine.

At the moment only four of the twelve vaccination lines are in use in Veghel. “We can inject more injections, but we are dependent on the delivery of vaccines. At the moment we are not getting any more deliveries”, says Thérèse Claassen, director of Public Health at GGD Hart voor Brabant.

The second vaccination round will also start in other places on Wednesday. In total, more than 40,000 employees of the intensive care unit, the emergency department and ambulance personnel will receive their second injection from Wednesday. All of this should have happened on February 5th. In total, 163,931 Dutch people received their first protective shot against the corona virus.
