“I think we were playing in Dubai and the main owner of the team, Manoj Badale, approached me and asked if I was ready to lead the team. I said I was ready. That’s how it happened (Rajasthan’s captaincy). It was because I felt I had the competitive experience to take that position.” Sanju Samson clarified while talking to Star Sports.

In his first season as the captain of Rajasthan Royals in 2021, Sanju could not take the team to the expected level. They finished seventh in the group stage. But Rajasthan Royals made a strong comeback in the IPL under Sanju in the 2022 season. They finished second in the group stage and entered the playoffs and advanced to the finals. But Gujarat, led by Hardik Pandya, fell in front of the Titans. The Royals finished fifth in the 2023 season as well.

Sanju Samson has led the team in 45 matches in the IPL so far. Out of these, Rajasthan Royals won 22 matches and lost 23 matches. Sanju’s success percentage is 42.88 in the captaincy of Rajasthan.
