Delhi: Sanjay Kumar Singh has been elected as the President of the Wrestling Federation of India. Sanjay Kumar got 40 out of 47 votes. Sanjay Kumar is a close aide of former chairman Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Sanjay Kumar is also the Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association. Everyone in the pro-Brij Bhushan panel won.
Elections were held for 15 posts including Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary General and Senior Vice President. Former Commonwealth Games gold medalist Anita Sheoran and Sanjay Singh are in the race for the post of president of the Wrestling Federation of India. Big controversies arose in the governing body when female wrestlers made sexual allegations against Brij Bhushan.
Top wrestlers including Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and World Championship medalist Vinesh Phogat led the protest at Jantar Mantar against Brij Bhushan. The actors were assured that Brij Bhushan’s family members or colleagues will not be allowed to contest the elections.
