“Sanitizer injections”: White House accuses media of misrepresenting Trump’s words

The White House accused the media on Friday of taking Donald Trump’s comments out of context, after the outcry over his statements suggesting that we could fight the coronavirus with disinfectant.

“President Trump has said many times that Americans should consult their doctors about treatments for the coronavirus, something he stressed again during yesterday’s briefing,” said the White House spokeswoman, Kayleigh McEnany. “You can count on the media to irresponsibly take President Trump out of context and publish negative headlines,” she added.

The President of the United States raised the possibility of a disinfectant “injection” to fight Covid-19 on Thursday evening during his daily press conference on the health crisis which left around 50,000 people dead in his country, with approximately 870,000 cases identified.

“I see the disinfectant knocks it out (the coronavirus) in a minute. A minute. And is there a way to do something like that with an injection inside or almost like a cleanse? “said Mr. Trump on Thursday. “We will have to call on doctors for that, but it seems interesting to me,” he continued.

Besides the disinfectant, Donald Trump also mentioned “ultraviolet” or “a very strong light” that we could project “inside the body” to fight the coronavirus, visibly causing discomfort in Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the crisis unit set up by the White House to fight the pandemic.
