The zoo-refuge La Tanière, opened only a few weeks ago near Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) suffers once again. For a week and the expansion of the health pass at its site, attendance has fallen from 60 to 70%.
This extension, which plans to oblige visitors to be vaccinated or screened in order to be able to access certain places, is “a decision that almost amounts to shutting us down”, indignant Patrick Violas.
A screening center at the entrance
In order to hope to once again welcome thousands of visitors for the day, the La Tanière team bought antigenic tests. One screening center, managed by medical staff, is installed at the entrance of the park. It is free to take a test, and initial tests have not revealed any cases of Covid-19. “For example, this allows families or groups of friends who have one of the unvaccinated members to come here,” explains Sophie Fernandes-Petitot, communications manager. He added that once the test has been carried out, “people will be able to enjoy other moments of leisure”.
Everything just stopped, everyone has the same problem. For the past few days, we have been at a standstill. (…) We will have to take strong measures, otherwise we will collapse.
La Tanière drops the sanitary passes
By “survival instinct”, Patrick Violas goes further. As a reminder, entrance tickets to La Tanière, drinks, snacks and souvenirs purchased on the outdoor site must allow the zoo-refuge to cover operating costs: care and food for rescued animals, in particular.
For the first time in my life, I am going to appeal for disobedience.
According to the explanations of the co-founder of this unique site in France which works for animal welfare, La Tanière will accept all visitors, that they have the precious sesame (Editor’s note: health pass) or not, to vaccinated and unvaccinated.
“I am not anti-vaccine,” defends Patrick Violas. And to insist on the fact that the zoo-refuge extends over twenty hectares and has large aisles.
