In an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”, the offensive player from record champions FC Bayern Munich called for clubs and fans to involve what they thought of it. “And you have to carefully discuss whether it makes sense,” said Sané. “It would probably mean more games for the players and you already have a lot of them.”
People always expect top performances, the 26-year-old noted. “I don’t want to complain when that happens, but after a certain number of games, the intensity and quality of the game suffers for the spectator,” said Sané. He likes having two games a week. “But you also have to make sure that we get our rest periods, that we can recover.”
The new head of the German Football League, Donata Hopfen, had brought up the playoffs with a view to more excitement. “If playoffs help us, then we’ll talk about playoffs. But we mustn’t forget that Bayern have done a great job in recent years,” Hopfen said, referring to Bayern’s dominance. Munich are aiming for their tenth championship in a row.
