– It was horrible
Lyng was alone in the capital, away from his parents and Mosjøen. She was only 16 and had to give birth well enough week after week to secure a place in the competition.
With the participation came a lot of attention and media coverage. But it wasn’t just Lyng’s talent that made it into the columns. In the podcast, she says that she was treated as an adult and therefore she also experienced being sexualized.
– There was a lot of attention on my boobs, despite being only 16 years old. When I look back now, I think it’s absolutely horrible, she says.
She explains that she was suffering from eating disorders at the time. She alone in a small hotel room in Oslo, she had no one to talk to about difficult things, she says.

– I started getting hurt and throwing up food. I didn’t have social media at the time, so I didn’t know what I was doing. All I wanted was to numb the pain inside, she says and continues:
– It was much easier to rationalize than what I had in mind.
