Sandra Della Signora: health through plants

For her column, Sandra Della Signora, tells us about “dandelion, the detox plant of spring”. One of the most common plants in our gardens and lawns, which peaks its golden flowers when spring arrives! Its etymology (piss – en – lit) tells us about one of its well-known virtues. Dandelion is one of the first wild salads of spring which comes at the right time to cleanse us and strengthen us at the end of winter. Be careful to harvest the young leaves otherwise they will become too bitter! The flowers are also edible.

Its Latin name Taraxacum dens leonis tells us about the shape of its “lion’s tooth” leaf. But you should know that there are more than 100 different forms of leaves referenced in the dandelion …

Very rich in vitamins (A, B, CD and K) and minerals (in particular in potassium) to recharge our batteries, the dandelion drains the organism in particular the kidneys, the liver and the skin. Its bitter leaves cleanse and help the liver to function. Some digestive migraines and constipation can be relieved as well as eczema and skin diseases. Its root is rich in inulin, a pre-biotic which nourishes and thrives the good intestinal flora. The root also has diuretic virtues and helps fight against gout and rheumatism. It promotes the elimination of kidney and gallstones.

The recipe corner:
