The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov stated that the situation with the third mandate for the government is complicated, and the parliament is fragmented.
“There is tension between the previous coalition partners, this requires more forward-looking talks. If a new government is not created within this parliament, then within two months we have to go to elections. In September, before the students have returned at school, it’s very hard to make an election. It’s even harder to make a campaign,” he said.
He is not convinced that a new cabinet would have been formed if the third mandate had been handed to “Democratic Bulgaria”, but he believes that it made more sense for DB to receive it from the president.
“Better dialogicity, more opportunities for a constructive view of the situation. Last year there was one given to the BSP, and they then failed to form a government. If the BSP decides to propose its own candidate for prime minister or a government in which they have an advantage, this definitely will not be supported by DB,” Sandov emphasized to Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to him, a hard winter awaits us, mostly because of external factors such as the war in Ukraine and all the resulting consequences.
“If we agree on the program, then there will be a moment for the structure of the Council of Ministers. I strongly hope that this will not create sparks in the coalition. I hope that the spirit of the talks will be constructive. Personal relationships and party ambitions should take a back seat “, believes the eco-minister.
Sandov is adamant that we need a functioning parliament in these times of high inflation, gas crisis and potential recession.
“If Russia decides to expand the front outside Ukraine, then it is inevitably important to have a regular government and parliament that can fully express the will of the Bulgarian people. We do not intend to break diplomatic relations with Russia, they should simply rest on the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations”, noted the eco-minister.
Sandov does not expect great damage to our energy sector, as we are a large exporter of electricity and at the same time we are not a large consumer of gas. And, according to him, we have secured routes for alternative deliveries.
“In the region, not only Azerbaijan is a big producer of gas. Maybe there is a chance to use gas from the region that is not Russian. The route to Turkey can be used in the opposite direction together with the two to Greece. The construction of terminals for liquefied gas, on which it will probably be possible to diversify the supply lines”, explained the Minister of Ecology.
Sandov did not rule out the possibility that our country will have smaller quantities of gas for the coming winter. According to him, we can reduce consumption and optimize it.
“People don’t realize that sometimes small things, like turning down the air conditioning by one degree, can save huge amounts of energy, without disturbing your comfort,” said Ganiela Angelova’s guest and pointed out that “Heating-Sofia” it cannot run on fuel oil.
And the company itself uses a third of all the gas used by the state.
“There is a huge obligation to Bulgargaz. This is an enterprise that does not want to modernize. Old technological processes are happening, modernizations can be made. This enterprise has long been on the verge of bankruptcy. Sofia arose because of its mineral waters. Thousands of years after “We don’t use this mineral water for a long time. The status quo has entrenched itself and does not want changes, or it has so tied up its corruption schemes that it could not exist in any other way,” comments Sandov.
What will happen to energy security if the state closes Brickell TPP?
“Brickel TPP produces 1-2% of the country’s electricity. To talk about how this will cause a gigantic crisis is totally untenable. The neighboring plant has many times more steam that it releases into the atmosphere, because there is nothing to do with it.” “For someone to comment that if Brickel closes, there will be no steam for Galabovo, for the steam plant or for the other enterprise, is false,” said the ecominister in his resignation.
“I went to the site and found that there was an incorrect measurement by our control authorities because they did not put the station where it should be. They are constantly in an emergency, so they allow themselves to release the emissions through the bypass chimney so that it appears to me on the reports that we have no pollution” , Deputy Prime Minister Sandov pointed out.
