SanDisk and WD Drives: Recent Problems and Firmware Fix

At mobilenet.cz, we also test SanDisk products from time to time. However, at least some of the drives offered by the manufacturer Western Digital, under which the Sandisk brand falls, have recently been plagued by rather unpleasant problems that cannot be taken lightly. Specifically, the models should be:

SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00)

SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00)

SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00)

SanDisk Extreme Pro 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00)

WD My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY)

The editors shared their experience The Verge (however, a number of complaints can be found on the X social network) who lost 3 TB of data due to a disk failure. Also complaints on the social network Reddit they point out that this problem does not only concern individuals, but a whole range of customers.

According to The Verge, faulty firmware could be behind the trouble. Western Digital has long offered no definitive position on the data-disappearing issues with these drives, but has admitted that a new firmware should fix the issue. The same problem was pointed out by arstechnica.com, with the first complaints from customers already appearing at least as early as January of this year. Self-deletion of data applies mainly to 2 TB portable SSDs, but also to those with a capacity of 4 TB. It manifests itself in the fact that the drive suddenly disconnects from the computer and cannot be reconnected. If you are plagued by the mentioned problems, on the website wd.com just enter the serial number of your drive and get a new firmware that should fix the problems.
