Former First Lady Imelda Marcos and her daughter, Irene Marcos-Araneta, have been denied the Motion for Reconsideration they filed with the Sandiganbayan in their bid to take back the wealth and properties seized from them by the government. The anti-graft court affirmed its earlier January 2023 Resolution on Civil Case 0002, which stated that 22 properties and assets illegally acquired by the Marcos family during the regime of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and already recovered by the Philippine government or transferred to third persons, were “considered moot and academic”. The Sandiganbayan pointed out that the Marcoses failed to present any new arguments to warrant a reconsideration of the court’s resolution, and its conclusion remains the same. The Supreme Court’s rulings were clear in providing for the seizure of properties from the Marcoses, as it upheld the validity of compromise agreements between the Philippine government and the Marcoses’ co-defendants. Despite the ruling, Senator Imee Marcos has yet to comment on the matter.
