Sandiaga Uno spent IDR 1 Trillion in 2019 Presidential Election Campaign Costs

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Sandiaga Uno admitted that he spent around IDR 1 trillion in campaign costs when he was a contestant in the 2019 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

It is known that Sandiaga Uno has advanced as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) accompanying Prabowo in the 2019 presidential election.

However, Sandiaga stated that these costs had been reported and audited by the General Elections Commission (KPU) and recorded in the State Officials Wealth Report (LHKPN).

“Maybe two years after the DKI Pilgub, (costs incurred) are almost IDR 1 trillion,” said Sandiaga Uno in the Rosi program on Kompas TV, Thursday (27/4/2023).

He admitted that the campaign costs for winning Prabowo-Sandi at that time did not only come from him. But also various parties who support the pair of candidates.

“Yes, everyone join the fight. But publicly, I reported the amount of property that had to be sold to finance the campaign,” he said.

Sandiaga Uno then realized that his logistical strength made him the target of many parties to become a vice presidential candidate (cawapres).

However, in his view, the determination of the nomination of presidential and vice presidential candidates is not only determined by material strength alone.

“In my opinion, it should be more than that (material), because thoughts, ideas, strategies, and this long breath are very important in politics. Not only in terms of funding strength,” said Sandiaga.

It is known that Sandiaga Uno is the richest minister in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. In 2022, he is recorded as having assets of up to IDR 10.6 trillion.

Currently, Sandiaga is often considered to be a suitable figure to become the running mate for Ganjar Pranowo, who has been promoted by the PDI-P as a presidential candidate.

Sandiaga has also declared his resignation from the Gerindra Party, but has not announced which political party he will join.

Many people suspect that Sandiaga Uno will become a cadre of the United Development Party (PPP). This is because the two of them have continued to show closeness since the end of 2022.
