Chairman of the PPP National Election Winning Body (Bappilu), Sandiaga Uno, responding to a declaration of support from party cadres who are members of the PPP Fighters for presidential and vice presidential candidates number 2, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Sandi believes that those who join Pejuang PPP will still vote for PPP.
“Of course there will be a lot of disturbance until later during the election but we don’t need to respond to it, that’s part of our family too. And they will also vote for PPP later. So in my opinion we don’t need to make a big deal of it, we don’t need to respond excessively,” said Sandi after the PPP National Bappilu meeting at the At-Taqwa Hall, South Jakarta, Thursday (28/12/2023).
Sandi shared his experience when he was an election participant in the 2019 presidential election contest which also received support from PPP cadres even though they were in different coalitions at that time. He admitted that he still maintains ethics in responding to this support.
“I have experience in 2019, I was also supported a lot by PPP cadres. But that is our ethics in responding to it. That’s why I see that PPP’s main word is unity, so we won’t actually destroy our brotherhood,” said Sandi.
Sandi also asked that this election be used as a step to increase good relations. However, Sandi did not deny that the PPP fighters supported the action Prabowo-Gibran can affect the performance of the struggle of cadres at the grassroots.
“In this contestation of democracy, every 5 years we should not add enemies like that, we should add friends, increase friendship. And I see that efforts like this are part of how the friends who are fighting under it are disturbed in their concentration,” concluded Sandi.
As is known, a number of PPP cadres who joined the PPP Fighters declared their support for candidate pair number 2 Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming. PPP itself is currently part of a coalition supporting presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 3, Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md.
The National Coordinator of PPP Fighters who is also Deputy Chair of the PPP DPP Advisory Council, Witjaksono, read the declaration of support directly to Prabowo-Gibran. “We, on behalf of the PPP Fighters, declare that we firmly support Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia 2024-2029. We are sure that Prabowo-Gibran will prioritize government programs,” said Witjaksono at the declaration event at the Ambhara Hotel, South Jakarta.
Witjaksono said he was still active in the PPP DPP until now. He admitted that he had communicated about this support to the Chairman of the PPP DPP Advisory Council Romahurmuziy or Rommy.
“I am in the DPP, I am the deputy chairman of the deliberation assembly. I have already (communicated with Rommy),” said Witjaksono.
Witjaksono said he himself had gathered a number of PPP cadres at the event. According to him, the declaration was made after aspirations of support emerged for candidate pair number 02.
“I happen to be alone. We are consolidating, so we receive a lot of aspirations from below. So because there are many aspirations from below, we consolidate, finally this event occurs,” he said.
Witjaksono said there were 300 attendees at the event. Half of the attendees, he said, were active PPP cadres.
“Around 300 (people attended. More than half of them (PPP cadres). Around 30 (PPP legislative candidates),” he said.
