Sandiaga Uno Affirms MotoGP Indonesia Continues All

KOMPAS.com – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, said that the event MotoGP Mandalika 2022 will continue.

Previously, Sandiaga Uno was annoyed with the statement that came out of Carmelo Ezpeleta as CEO of Dorna Spors.

At that time, Carmelo Ezpeleta intended to cancel the title Indonesian MotoGP held in Mandalika Circuit. Lombok.

The plan emerged after an Indonesian government regulation obligated a 14-day quarantine for travelers from abroad.

No doubt, Carmelo’s intention made Sandiaga unhappy. He didn’t accept the threat made by the CEO Dorna Sports that.

Now, Sandiaga Uno also confirms that MotoGP will continue to take place in Indonesia.

However, Sandiaga Uno wants all Indonesian MotoGP events to implement health protocols.

The health protocol will have to be followed by all crews, riders, and officials who are involved in this motorcycle racing event.

“So we have already conveyed that the show must go on by preparing a travel bubble, which is a best practice that has been carried out for crews and racers at previous events,” said Sandiaga in a press release from the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, quoted by Kompas.com from Antara.

Sandiaga explained that all elements involved must comply with applicable regulations.

“Everyone who comes from abroad will undergo a travel bubble pattern,” he said.

Indeed, Indonesia has already implemented this travel bubble regulation during the preparations for the G20 in Bali and Jakarta.

Then this system was tried again when Indonesia held the 2021 World Superbike (WSBK).

According to Sandiaga, the health protocol that will be applied to the Indonesian MotoGP event is also a directive from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo.

“This is a directive from the President as well. I believe that all parties work hand in hand to prepare and ensure that MotoGP is a signal to the world about our readiness to hold international events, such as the G20 and international conferences,” he said.

In addition, Sandiaga also explained that all parties involved in MotoGP will begin to undergo a travel bubble upon arrival at the airport.

“Of course we need to take care of (the achievement of controlling Covid-19 and this is what we continue to communicate that there is a provision for a travel bubble within 1 x 24 hours, all crews, drivers and officials will undergo bubble travel regulations starting from their arrival at the airport until they arrive at the hotel after carrying out their duties). PCR test and this is also adjusted to the rules of the Ministry of Health,” he said.

He is also optimistic that MotoGP can contribute to improving the Indonesian economy.

“From an economic point of view, we see an increase of 20-25 percent of the economy after WSBK and we see that in 2022 this MotoGP event will be at least 3-4 times bigger,” he concluded.
