Sandi Damkar Protests Salary Cut, Threat of Fired Accepted

Jakarta

Since joining as a member of the Depok City Fire Department (Damkar), in October 2015, Sandi Junior Butar Butar admitted that his salary was always cut by Rp. 400 thousand. The reason is that such a large cut is used to pay BPJS Health and Employment contributions. But strange, when his son who suffered from asthma was taken to the hospital, the BPJS card that was handed out was rejected by the officers.

“My card was deactivated because I didn’t pay dues. Finally, the motorbike lock was guaranteed so that my child could be steamed,” Sandi said when met by the team. detikcom at the City Hall Damkar Post Depok, Saturday morning (17/4/2021).

He took it up with his superiors. The solution offered was that all medical expenses were reimbursed, but the reason why the BPJS Card could not be used was not answered. Even though the salaries of him and other members of the Damkar are always deducted every month. When they questioned this, their superiors threatened them back.

“You just protest, if you don’t like it, that’s it. There are still many who want to work here,” said Sandi imitating his boss’s answer.

Another thing that concerns the man who was born in Jakarta, June 8, 1991 is the problem of poor work facilities and equipment. The Harvik shoes and heat-resistant clothes that were used during a fire have not been replaced for years. The condition is worn and tattered. “See, there is a tear in the groin,” said Sandi.

As a result of bad official clothes, he continued, a colleague had once injured his back due to the order of broken glass. Another officer had suffered an injury from stepping on a nail due to his shoes not being coated with steel according to specifications.
The initial suspicion of internal corruption in the Depok Damkar emerged after Sandi exposed it on social media a few days ago. He held a protest at Depok City Hall by carrying a poster and then posting it on social media.

On the poster he carried was written the sentence, “Mr. Kemendagri, please take firm action against officials at the Depok fire department. We are required to work 100 percent, but the equipment in the field is not purchased 10 percent, many are darkened !!! ‘. There is also a poster,’ Sir President Jokowi please investigate the corruption crime of Depok Fire Fighting Service #StopKorupsiDamkar ‘.

One of the allegations of corruption revealed by Sandi was the procurement of shoes in 2018. According to him, the shoes received by him and the members of the Damkar team did not match specifications. In addition, there are allegations of cutting incentives for mitigation and spraying of disinfectants. Supposedly, each officer received an incentive of Rp 1.7 million, but only Rp 850 thousand was received.

So far, the Head of the Damkar Service, Gandara Budiawan, has dismissed all of Sandi’s statements. Meanwhile, the Head of Disaster Management at the Damkar Service, Denny Romulo, stated that the funds questioned by Sandi were received by each team leader from the treasurer.
