Sander Hoogendoorn about forced radio break: ‘Good to look back’ | NOW

Sander Hoogendoorn looks after his show stops Sanders Friends Team on NPO 3FM looking forward to not making radio for a while. On Thursday, the DJ will present his last morning show after almost four years. “I can now find out what radio is to me and what it means to me. I think it is very good to look back,” Hoogendoorn tells the ANP.

The 34-year-old Hoogendoorn announced in April that he had to stop with his program. “I’m used to the idea, so the anger and sadness is gone,” he says now. “But it’s like grieving. It’s something that doesn’t just go away overnight. I’m still very sorry that it is.”

In his last broadcast week, Hoogendoorn is mainly busy “extra enjoyment”. “So also getting up, taking a shower, feeding the cat. It is quite a special morning ritual that not many people have.” In the final shows, the DJ tries to be “a sponge of all the memories of the past four years”.

Thursday morning Hoogendoorn presents for the last time Sanders Friends Team† His favorite band, The Vices, performs on that show. “I think that’s great. They have been with us most often and we have grown together.” Rondé plays the last song of the last show: Hard To Say Goodbye† “That’s the very last.”

Enough future plans

Now that his show has stopped and Hoogendoorn has been able to give the disappointment a place, he is very much looking forward to new adventures. “And no more mandatory alarms at 4 a.m. I think I’m going to feel better both mentally and physically if I’m not chronically fatigued.” Hoogendoorn is currently training for a marathon and will soon be going on a walking holiday in Austria.

There are plenty of plans for the future, Hoogendoorn assures his listeners. “I’m not worried, but I can’t say anything about the plans and ideas yet.” It’s something that stings him at the same time, because Hoogendoorn always wants to be honest with his listeners. “It now feels like some kind of barrier that I can hopefully break soon.”

Mai Verbij and Mark van der Molen will temporarily take over the morning show on NPO 3FM from Friday, Hoogendoorn announced on Monday in his show.
