He said this on Saturday in the radio program Spuigasten of The Hague FM. According to him, the incident was not as serious as with D66 leader Sigrid Kaag last week, when a man stood in front of her house with a burning torch. But ‘it’s just really not nice’, he emphasizes. Previously, he did not want to speak about it publicly. He did not say when the incident occurred.
It is more common that politicians also have to deal with threats around their homes. Last week, outgoing minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) said in the Op1 program that he had to deal with threats and intimidation near his home on an almost daily basis. A police post has since been placed near his home.
The man who shouted conspiracy slogans in front of Kaag’s house last Thursday is still in custody. He is due to appear in court on January 19.
