24 years after the release of Gladiator, 14. November 2024 Gladiator 2 in German cinemas. The long-awaited sequel was again directed by Ridley Scott, and we can present you the new trailer today. Russell Crowe, who remains in Elysium as Maximus, is not seen. Instead, the sequel focuses on the adult Lucius, the nephew of Emperor Commodus from the first part. Here is the official synopsis:
Years ago, Lucius witnessed the death of his beloved hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle. Now he is forced to enter the Colosseum himself after his homeland has been conquered by the tyrannical emperors who now rule Rome with an iron fist. The future of the empire is at stake, and with anger in his heart, Lucius must turn to his past to find the strength to restore Rome’s glory to its people.
Paul Mescal plays the main role and leads the high-caliber cast. The ensemble also includes Oscar winner Denzel Washington as well as Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn. Djimon Hounsou, Derek Jacobi and Connie Nielsen are also familiar faces from the first part. The screenplay was written by David Scarpa, who wrote for Ridley Scott who has already written the scripts for All the Money in the World and Napoleon.
