JAKARTAUnited States (US) commercial aircraft manufacturer, Boeing officially stopped buying titanium from Russia. The move was the company’s response to the Kremlin which had previously threatened to stop shipping titanium to the company, in retaliation for a series of Western countries sanctions against the Red Bear Country.

“We still have diversified supplies and sources of titanium to manufacture aircraft,” the company said in a statement.

According to Wall Street Journal records, a third of Boeing’s total titanium requirement in making aircraft components comes from Russian supplies. While the United States, Japan, China, and Kazakhstan accounted for the rest.

The cessation of supply is seen as disrupting Boeing’s relationship with Russia’s largest titanium producer, VSMPO-Avisma, which also produces aluminum and magnesium.

“We are already observing the situation in our country and (conditions) around the world. We are ready for this decision,” VSMPO-Avisma management said in a statement.

VSMPO confirmed that they would transfer their stock to a number of markets in countries that were in need. Meanwhile, Boeing also ensures that the business continuity of commercial aircraft will continue, even without the role of Russian corporations.

“The company will continue to take steps to ensure long-term business sustainability,” Boeing said.
