Sanctions buried the Russian “Arctic LNG-2”: the media found out what the United States did –

The plant that assembled the first two production lines for Arctic LNG 2 found itself isolated after the project itself came under tough US sanctions a year ago.

American sanctions have resulted big hit for one of the largest and most advanced energy projects in RussiaArctic LNG-2. The Novatek plant in Belokamenka, Murmansk region, is the only site in the country to build modules for LNG plants,

This initiative, created through the efforts of tens of thousands of experts, was supposed to be the key link in the implementation of Putin’s plan to transform Russia into one of the world leaders in the export of natural gas liquefied natural gas (LNG). But due to the pressure of Western sanctions, the project was about to collapse completely.

According to satellite data analyzed by the Earth Observation Group at the Paine Public Policy Institute in Colorado, activity at the plant has dropped significantly. In late October and early November, nighttime light levels at the site reached their lowest levels since monitoring began in 2018–2019 and were almost zero.

Sanctions buried the Russian “Arctic LNG-2”: the media found out what the United States did –

The plant that assembled the first two production lines for “Arctic LNG-2”found itself isolated after the project itself came under tough US sanctions a year ago.

Initially, the project involved the construction of three production lines, each of which could produce 6.6 million tons of LNG per year. The total capacity of Arctic LNG-2 was planned at 19.8 million tons – about 20% of Russia’s stated goal of increasing LNG production to 100 million tons per year by 2030.

This was supposed to be a strategic advance for Russia, strengthening its position in the global energy market. However, the war in Ukraine, unleashed by the Kremlin, and subsequent sanctions hindered these plans.

The freezing of the Arctic LNG-2 project is a symbol of a deep crisis that exists
it turned out to be the Russian economy due to isolation from Western technology and investment. The inability to ensure the production of modern equipment reinforces Russia’s technological dependence on foreign partners, which has now become fatal.

Russia has tried to compete with global leaders in the LNG market, such as Qatar and Australia. But today he is losing not only his ambitions, but also the opportunity to implement major infrastructure projects that will keep the economy going despite the pressure of sanctions.

This failure in Arctic LNG 2 could be the starting point for Russia’s efforts to become a leader in the global LNG market.
