Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has issued a stern warning to Chinese companies that may flout announced U.S. restrictions on exports to Russia, saying the U.S. will cut them off from the U.S. hardware and software they need to manufacture their products.
The publication adds that Washington has the power to actually shut down Chinese companies if they do not comply with sanctions that prohibit the supply of microchips and other technologies to Russia.
Earlier, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said that the West is trying to convince the Chinese authorities to abandon neutrality in the situation in Ukraine. Such a stance is not an option for Beijing, as it could play a leading role in a settlement, Nuland said.
