According to her, the forced landing of the plane of the Irish airline Ryanair with journalist Roman Protasevich on board in Minsk and his subsequent arrest became an example of “the complete suppression of all freedoms that the EU countries hold dear.”
She also called for additional work to improve flight safety in the Baltic region. “This is not the end of the story. This world of treaties, values and rules is changing. This means that our NATO partners still have reason to believe that it needs to be strengthened further,” she said.
Commenting on the US decision not to impose sanctions on Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Nord Stream 2, Shimonyte said that Washington and Berlin should not “turn a blind eye to unpleasant things” because of the economic interests of one country.
