PHOENIX — Gary Sanchez hit a two-run homer to cap a six-run third inning, Dylan Bundy pitched eight effective innings and the Minnesota Twins routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-1 on Saturday.
—
The Twins built a 6-0 lead with their big third inning, highlighted by a mammoth two-out, two-run homer by Sanchez that fell into the left-center seats. It was the eighth home run of the season for the two-time All-Star.
—
Alex Kirilloff, recently called up from Triple-A, added a two-run double. The Twins did a lot of offensive damage even without star slugger Byron Buxton, who had a day off already scheduled.
—
Bundy (4-3) retired the first 10 batters he faced before Alek Thomas singled to the middle of the infield.
—
It was a tough night for D-backs starter Luke Weaver (1-1), who allowed nine earned runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five.
—
For the Twins, the Venezuelan Luis Arráez 2-2, and two runs scored; the Dominicans Gary Sánchez 3-1, one scored and two RBIs, and Gilberto Celestino 2-0.
—
For the Diamondbacks, the Venezuelan David Peralta 3-1, and the Dominican Geraldo Perdomo 3-0.
