Work has begun in recent days for the construction of a new gym in Ligugnana, next to the sports hall. “We hope to see it completed by the end of our mandate – hopes the Councilor for sport, Carlo Candido -. Barring surprises, I believe that the goal can be achieved. The new facility will be dedicated in particular to the field of artistic gymnastics and will be a reference for this discipline not only at the district level but also at the regional level “.
The work, included in the Municipal Public Works Plan 2020, responds to a specific need of the sports world, in particular that of artistic gymnastics. The local company engages about 400 young athletes who until now have carried out their activity mainly in the spaces of the former Cinema Italia. Premises that, also due to the sporting evolution that has affected this discipline, are no longer suitable. The municipal administration had thus inserted the identification of new spaces for gymnastics among the objectives of its mandate and now, with the construction of the gym, the objective can be said to be achieved.
The expenditure amounts to a total of 1.8 million euros (one million from municipal funds, the rest from regional contributions). “This is a particularly important investment – continues Candido – with which we demonstrate once more the attention that this Administration has had towards sport, especially for young people”. The new gym will rise, as mentioned, in the area adjacent to the current building, of which it will represent a sort of extension and to which it will be connected. The new spaces will be used for training sessions, while for tests and competitions we will move to the central body of the building, so as to take advantage of the large stands.
Also for the changing rooms, reference will be made to those present in the building, but in the future the Administration foresees a further expansion in order to equip the new body with its own changing rooms and other ancillary rooms. An extension already taken into consideration in the design phase. “The gym – says Councilor Candido – will give gymnastics the opportunity to profitably carry out its activity. When resources are available in the future, further expansion will be possible. But already in this way the gym will respond to the needs that have been represented by the sports club, with which the comparison has been continuous ”.
Fabio Roncadin, president of the Sanvitese Gymnastics: “Our association, which has over 50 years of history, has been waiting for its own space for some time and we thank the municipal administration for what it has done. Ours is a club with many members – it has touched up to 430 athletes – which make it one of the most numerous in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
If the gym in the former Italian cinema has had its day, with this new site we would have better and functional spaces: it will be the first in the Pordenone area to be born as a gymnastics gym, with all its peculiarities. A work that will allow us to grow over time and our hope is that it can also be used for specific training by athletes from other gymnastics clubs in western Friuli ”.
Technical aspects
Among the aspects to highlight of the project, the solution was chosen which will use entirely prefabricated structural elements. It will have a gross area of over 1,300 square meters. and will consist not only of the main gym but also of an access hall, toilets, an office, a cloakroom and a technical room. The main gymnasium will have a net internal dimension of 42 meters by 25 meters. The floor will be in PVC. Natural lighting will be ensured by windows positioned on the south walls – placed at the top, and therefore there will be no visibility on the nearby building – and to the north. The higher ones will be motorized so that they can be opened with a simple click.
