Ciudad Deportiva Inclusiva (CDI) hosted a close duel between Salvadoreñas and San Salvador that ended with a hard-fought 56-57 victory for the capitals. This result has the capital team as the undefeated leader in the 2024 Apertura Tournament Copa Tigo Sports of the Major Women’s Basketball League (LMBF) with three victories in the same number of games.
With 20 seconds into the first period, Bexy Claro, from Salvadoreñas, committed a foul on Yayma Boulet, from San Salvador, an opportunity that the player from the capital team took advantage of to hit the two free throws with which they began the dominance over Salvadoreñas. At the end of the first episode, San Salvador took a seven-point lead 18-11.
Salvadoreñas took command in the second period thanks to the actions of Fátima Avilés, who contributed 11 points for her team, which won the quarter 19-13, leaving the overall score 30-31 in their favor.
Arlenys Romero opened the scoring in the third quarter with a double shot for San Salvador with just 20 seconds on the clock. From there, the pressure on Salvadoreñas increased to such a degree that Arlenys herself scored eight more points, which allowed them to win the set 7-15 and expand the overall advantage to 37-46.
Claro added for Salvadoreñas with a double shot with 8:24 left in the fourth period and shouldered the team with Valeria Cornejo. Together they made the Salvadoreñas offense on the verge of coming back in the game, however, even though they took the quarter 19-11, overall the advantage favored San Salvador 56-57.
Salvadoreñas found their best scorer in Avilés, as she contributed 19 points; Claro scored 12 points, followed by Emily Tévez with 8. Boulet was San Salvador’s top scorer, with 22 points; Romero contributed 20 and Elisa Domínguez added 10 points.
Saint Anne fell at home
Santa Ana and the Monseñor Romero Municipal League starred in a Santaneco duel at the David Vega Gymnasium, which ended with a defeat for Santa Ana, which was the home team on this day, with a score of 56-85.
The Santa Ana team did not resist the LMMR players, who overwhelmed them 14-22 in the first period. Then, in the second quarter, the Santanecas fell 10-19 for a total of 24-41, already with a clear difference in favor of those from the League.
LMMR continued with the same dose in the third period and surpassed its neighbors 12-23, increasing the overall advantage 36-64; while in the fourth episode, the actions were very even although the league team won 20-21, leaving the overall score 56-85 in their favor.
Santa Ana’s best scorers were Crissia Paz with 18 points, followed by Jani Martínez with 17 and Fabiola Rivas with 12 points. By LMMR, Mónica Calderón was the best scorer with 17 points, closely followed by Dairis Tornell, who achieved 16, and Gisela Rodríguez, 10.
The LMBF programming continues this coming March 9 with the duel between Batanecas and Santa Ana, to take place on the Tacon court, in San Vicente, starting at 6:00 pm
