Readly Express is the latest Swede to win the Prix d’Amérique – 2018.
Now San Moteur is second favorite to win the super race in January.
– We are going to drive around barefoot for the first time and with jerky then, reveals the owner Håkan Arvidsson.
On Sunday, the Swedish jumper San Moteur made it to what is usually called the world’s largest and most prestigious trotting race, the Prix d’Amérique.
This after winning the qualifying race Prix de Bourbonnais.
– It is absolutely incredible. It was today that mattered, said owner and breeder Håkan Arvidsson immediately after the race at Vincennes.
PdA will be decided in Paris on Sunday 28 January 2024 and now about seven weeks long upload for San Moteur awaits.
“Lots of TV cameras”
On Monday, the journey home to Sweden and Björn Goop’s Lökene farm began, a journey that is expected to be over during Tuesday morning.
When Trav365 reaches Arvidsson on Monday evening, he is in the mountains on his way into Germany with his superstar.
– It’s just been incredibly fun, fantastic. It is noticeable that he really touches many people, both in France and Sweden. There have been lots of TV cameras and film crews throughout Sunday but also during Monday morning. It is only the second time in history that a non-French horse has won the Prix de Bourbonnais, says Håkan.
“Was a relief”
The owner and breeder is also co-trainer to Björn Goop and very involved in everything related to San Moteur.
He felt a pressure to stand by and watch his horse run, especially when so much was at stake.
– At first I thought I was calm, was completely in my own world, you still can’t influence. But on the run it was hard. San Moteur refuses to give up. I even saw on the GPS watch that he was gaining the last few meters. But of course you put pressure on yourself. This PdA thing has been on my mind for almost two years, says Arvidsson and continues:
– The distance and course must be perfect for him. But can never be sure and of course it was a relief now that he is done and that he won. I also put a little pressure on myself when I go out and talk, maybe a little more than normal. But I feel that I love the trot and that he has become the people’s horse.
How has San Moteur felt after the Prix de Bourbonnais?
– He feels great and has swallowed the food, generally feels satisfied with life. But we’ve had a very long trip and he’s a little more tired than usual.

Can start on New Year’s Eve in the Sylvester race
On the last Sunday of January, it’s time again to travel back to Paris for San Moteur.
Now seven weeks of rigorous preparation await where nothing is left to chance, all to reach the big goal, namely winning the Prix d’Amérique.
– We haven’t decided completely yet, but he will probably start either at Axevalla on New Year’s Eve in the Sylvester race or on January 13 at Kalmar’s V75 races. At first we thought we might start one more time down in France in the Prix de Belgique, but it doesn’t feel like he needs more preparation races to get to know the track. Not starting anything more before PdA does not feel likely, Arvidsson continues.
How will he be at his very best in the Prix d’Amérique?
– We’re going to drive around barefoot for the first time and with jerky then, that’s the plan anyway. We know he will be one more gear without shoes, a number of lengths better then. We have waited a very long time and now is the time. He will get to train before the start there and it will most likely be a race before that in Sweden.
– Another thing we will improve is the upload. Now it became a bit strange to return home for 14 days and then back. Next time it will be optimal, as it was in the first race Prix de Bretagne.

What do they say down in France about San Moteur?
– It really feels like they have respect for him and that they are interested. He has received an enormous amount of attention this time we were down.
How are you at the moment Håkan?
– I feel good. I said earlier that the Elitloppet was my dream and it was. This thing with the Prix d’Amérique is almost not even a dream as it has been almost unreal. But of course now it’s a dream for me that I never thought would come true. It feels amazing and I have to pinch myself to realize that it is true. I have followed all the horses in PdA but never thought that you would bring one out yourself.
