San Miniato mourns Giuseppe Del Medico

Giuseppe Del Medico passed away yesterday morning at the hospital in Florence. Born in Carmingnano in 1947, he worked in San Miniato for many years.

After graduating in political science, as a young man he had an important role in the SNIA VISCOSA for several years; he worked as a manager in various Italian and foreign companies, from Udine to Milan to Florence, in the field of waste and the environment.

In 1994 he was appointed as manager of the Municipality of San Miniato, demonstrating great ability, moving from private to public. In this institution for over a decade he put all his great managerial skills into play, reorganizing the municipality of San Miniato in a far-sighted way, which for many years followed the methods he established.

In 2006 Giuseppe Del Medico was appointed president of the Del Campana Guazzesi Public Company for Personal Services, a position he held with great ability until 2019, accompanying the transformation of this public body from IPAB to a Public Company.

In this journey he brought the budget into balance, opened the structure to the territory (Palio di San Rocco, visits with the elderly to companies in the area, volunteering), gave important guidelines for management, 16 beds were converted from self-sufficient and non-self-sufficient, the integrated day center was opened. During his presidency, important interventions were carried out on the building: renovation of the three floors of the house present, with the creation of bathrooms in the rooms, renovation of the terrace-garden, restoration of the eighteenth-century roof… and many other important interventions.

The former director of APSP Del Campana Guazzesi, Delio Fiordispina, who worked with him for 13 years, remembers him affectionately: “Giuseppe was a concrete and intelligent person with whom I worked very well. As president he made his great managerial skills available to the APSP. Thanks to him we have achieved important results and embarked on a path that has seen us open up to the territory. I also want to remember his great humanity and the attachment he had with the elderly, whom he accompanied many times with passion as they left the facility in various parts of the area and even for 2 years at the Elderly Olympics in Castello Tesino”.

With him disappears a very well-prepared person, who despite living in Florence, gave a lot to the community of San Miniato and left important marks: first involved in the Municipal Administration and then as President of the APSP Del Campana Guazzesi. The management and board of directors of APSP Del Campana Guazzesi express heartfelt condolences to his wife Paola and son Vincenzo. Tomorrow Saturday 26 October the funeral of Giuseppe Del Medico will take place in Florence in the church of San Jacopino, via Benedetto Marcello at 3.30 pm.
