Atlético de San Luis gave the surprise and set foot in the semifinals of the Apertura 2024 tournament of the Liga Mx after beating Tigres 3-0 this Thursday in the first leg of the quarterfinals, played at the Alfonso Lastras stadium.
Despite starting the match with greater intensity, with shots from Juan Brunetta, Nicolás Ibáñez and Diego Lainez, the Monterrey team failed to open the scoring in the first minutes.
The lack of forcefulness of Tigres allowed the Potosí squad, led by the Spanish Domenec Torrent, to take advantage in the 35th minute thanks to an own goal by the Brazilian defender Joaquim Pereira, who, in his attempt to deflect a cross sent by Ricardo Chávez, ended up scoring the ball in his own goal.
The visitors, led by Serbian Veljko Paunovic, were not discouraged by the goal against and continued to pressure their rival in search of an equalizer.
However, Atlético de San Luis managed to increase their scoring quota in the 60th minute thanks to Brazilian Leonardo Bonatini, who, after receiving a lateral pass from his compatriot Vitinho in the area, shot directly into the goal guarded by Nahuel Guzmán to make it 2 -0 on the board.
The third blow for the feline team came just four minutes later, in the 64th minute, when Vitinho headed a cross sent by Javier Güemez very close to the opposing goal, sealing the final 3-0.
To advance to the semifinals, Tigres needs to win by more than three goals in the second leg, which will take place next Sunday at the Universitario stadium.
