San Jose Sharks in Competition to Sign NHL Star Erik Karlsson

It has been clear for a while that the San Jose Sharks are working on a move for the Swedish NHL star, who recently won the league’s best defenseman award.

The 33-year-old himself has stated that he wants to play in a team that can go for the Stanley Cup title – which San Jose’s team building does not seem to be enough at the moment.

Last week, several North American media reported that the Pittsburgh Penguins were best suited to sign Karlsson. During Tuesday, the local website states SJ Hockey Now that Penguin’s interest is unchanged.

“One call – then Karlsson leaves”

However, the club looks set to face stiff competition from the Carolina Hurricanes.

– I think it is between them, says expert Elliotte Friedman to the site.

– It’s a bit of a poker match right now.

Karlsson has four years left on his contract with San Jose, with a salary of $11.5 million per season. Friedman believes that the parties are currently having difficulty agreeing on how the high costs should be distributed.

– We have a situation where no one is one hundred percent satisfied. What is required is for someone to change their attitude and change their pulse a little, says Elliotte Friedman.

“It seems that all it takes is a conversation – and Erik Karlsson is leaving the San Jose Sharks,” writes SJ Hockey Now.
